- The deep black sky to the east begins to soften to a rich
- blue, which in turn becomes tinged with pink...
- Soon, the massive stones are silhouetted against a sky stained
- with red...
- Yellow streaks begin to dance across the sky overhead, playing
- with the clouds and lighting up the area around you...
- Finally, the yellow edge of the sun itself appears over the
- horizon, and the first blinding shaft of sunlight shoots
- precisely between the mighty trilithons and strikes you full
- upon your face...
- Sunrise on the morning of the summer solstice is complete, and
- once again the ancient stones have stood mute witness to the
- precision of the hidden cycles of the universe.
- An old man steps out from behind one of the trilithons and says
- , "Greetings, stranger. It is good to see that there are still
- those who study the old knowledge."

- The old man looks off into the distance, as if recalling a
- time long ago. "Once there were many of us studying the sun and
- the moon," he says. "But then the cultists came and made a

- again as his thoughts return to the present. "But if you know
- the secret of the sun stone, then you must also know about the
- great eclipse that will take place today on the other side of
- the ocean. I know not if the people there study the sun, but if
- they do not, when darkness comes at one hour after midday they
- will probably fall to the ground in fright as did our
- ancestors." He shakes his head sadly. "It is terrible how true
- knowledge can be driven out by superstitious nonsense. Thus has
- it always been, and I imagine thus it will always be."

- Closet
- You are in what appears to be a closet in the heart of the
- pyramid. The only light in the room comes from a small window
- set well out of reach in the wall over your head. You see some
- graffiti scrawled on the wall.
-
- >read wall
- The graffiti is in English and it says, "As for teenagers, I
- think they should banished from the academy."

- Temple
- You are in a sanctuary deep inside the great temple of the
- sun. The air here seems to shimmer.
- There is a mural on the wall here that shows the sun-god
- disguised as a man escaping from a cannibal pot. Next to it is
- another mural that shows Indian armies defeating the armies of
- all nations that come against them. A darkened exit leads off
- to the east.

- You press the button on the wristlet and the shimmering melts
- away to reveal a black rectangle that hovers in midair. You
- step through the hole in space and find yourself inside the
- interkron.
-
- Interkron
- The interkron is a cramped space full of dials and switches.
- Directly in front of you is a slot with a key card in it and a
- green light next to it. The display screen is taken up by a
- world map, and there are ten years highlighted next to it.
- Under the keyboard, a technician has scrawled on a piece of t
- ape, "To go to a new timeplace, type 'timeset,' followed by the
- name of the city and the year that you want to go to. Eg.
- Timeset Rome 44."
-
- >ts mexico 800
- You hear a low humming that slowly crescendos into a
- full-fledged roar. The interkron begins to shake and you become
- disoriented. You fall to the floor and pass out...
- When you awaken and struggle to your feet, you realize that
- you have travelled to Mexico, in the year 800.

- The warlike Toltecs have destroyed the city of Teotihuacan and
- replaced it with their own city of Tula, which lies to the
